"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." Buddha
"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Abraham Lincoln
I read an article last week about the son of the man for which the city of Tigard is named after... Mr. Tigard. He just turned 106 years old and celebrated his birthday the same way he lives each day, having a PB&J for lunch with a glass of red wine and hanging out with his best friend. The interviewer asked the question that is normally asked of centenarians: "What is your secret?" Mr. Tigard replied with, "Just do what is in front of you every day."
I felt like this fit well with many other pearls of wisdom passed down from our esteemed seniors so I found a few other quotes from those 100+ folks:
Do one thing each day that is just for you.
Learn to adapt.
Don't look at the calendar. Just keep celebrating every day.
Keep going and never give up.
Make yourself walk.
Just keep going.
I attribute my longevity to a great extent to walking, not being in the back of the car strapped down.
I try not to worry. I just try to live.
Keep busy doing what you like.
I don't care what you're passionate about: maybe saving Dixie cup covers. But if you do it passionately, you're alive.
I try to take the time to look at and appreciate the smaller things that make this life beautiful. When I do that, time slows.
Learning new things makes you happy and keeps your mind active.
Take one day at a time, and go along with the tide.
Take it easy, enjoy life, what will be will be. Sleep well, have a Bailey's Irish Cream before bed if you have a cold you will wake up fine the next morning.
Get out there and put some life in your day!
